Taking a look at the design of the smartphone. The Realme 5i is made from plastic, the back of the smartphone is made from plastic and it also has a plastic frame. The front panel is protected by a corning gorilla glass which makes it not too easy to break.
At the rear, there is a vertical quad camera setup and a single flash at it’s right side. Beneath the rear is a vertical Realme inscription and at the center, there is a fingerprint sensor for security. The smartphone has a dimension of 164.4 x 75 x 9.3 mm which makes it easy to hold.
In terms of weight, it weighs about 195grams which is considered a little bit heavy but we think it is because of that huge 5000mAh battery and the corning gorilla glass on the front. The smartphone supports dual nano SIM card slot which is located at the left side.
Moving on to the display, the smartphone comes with a 6.52inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 by 1600 pixels. The bezels and the chin on this device are not much and that makes it to achieve an aspect ratio of 83.2%.
It has a ppi of 269 which means color reproduction on this device will be average. We are not surprised because it is the lite version of the Realme 5. For safety, the display is protected by a corning gorilla glass. The display uses an IPS LCD panel with up to 16M colours.
If you compare the display with the one on the Realme 5, you can see that they both has same size and same resolution but the only difference is that the display on the 5 is protected by a corning gorilla glass 3+ while the one on the 5i is only a single gorilla glass.
Hardware & Software
Coming on to the hardware and software aspect of the Realme 5i, it runs on Android 9.0 pie operating system but you can upgrade it to the latest Android 10 since Realme has sent out the update. The Android 9 pie operating system is based on ColorOS 6.
It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset which has an Octa core processor clocked at 2.0GHz, paired with a 32GB of internal storage & 3GB of RAM or a 64GB of internal storage & a 4GB of RAM. You can still expand the storage if it is not enough up to 128GB.
For graphics or gaming, it has an Adreno 610 GPU. If you compare the hardware & software on the Realme 5i to the Realme 5, you will notice that they have the same chipset, OS and even GPU. The difference is that the Realme 5 comes in many configurations & nothing more.
Going to the photography aspect of this phone, you are getting a quad camera set-up which includes a 12MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8MP ultra wide camera with f/2.2 aperture, 2MP dedicated macro camera with f/2.4 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
On the front, you get an 8MP camera for selfies or video calls with an aperture of f/2.0. The rear camera can shoot a 4k video at 30fps and a 1080p videos at 30fps. The front camera can only shoot a 1080p videos at 30fps. There is a single led flash at the rear for your awesome low light captures.
But on the front, there is no led flash because it makes use of screen flash. So for you to take a selfie camera at night, the screen needs to turn bright white and then capture. Do i forgot to mention that the rear camera supports EIS? Yea, it supports electronic image stabilization (EIS).
What is keeping the light on in this device is a big 5,000mAh battery and you can juice it up quickly since the smartphone supports 10W charging. Normally, a 10W charger can take a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100% under 2hours. So being that this one has a 5,000mAh battery, it might take extra 1hour for a full charge.
For security purposes, the smartphone makes use of a rear mounted fingerprint scanner. Connectivity options includes Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, FM Radio and a micro USB 2.0. It doesn’t come with a USB Type- C. Would have been nice if they did that though.
Realme 5i Price in Nigeria & Availability
The Realme 5i price in Nigeria starts from N45,000 which converts to $125 and it’s Availablity in Nigeria is not yet confirmed but we don’t think it will come to Nigeria.
Note: This price listed here is what the smartphone is priced abroad and not in Nigeria. It might be priced at this amount if it arrives in Nigeria but there is a huge possibility that the price will change if it arrives in Nigeria. Just take this price as a pinch of salt for now.
Thaughts on the Realme 5i
This smartphone is a midrange smartphone and looking at it’s specificications, i’m quite satisfied with it but it would have been better if Realme uses a USB C-port instead of just a Micro USB. The 5,000mAh battery on this device is great, at least it can last for hours.
Quad camera set-up at the rear is a plus too, it can take good pictures and looking at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, it is nice considering the fact that you are paying $125 for it. The 6.52inch display is great for consuming media contents.
