Huawei Mate Xs is just an update of the Mate X. This is a foldable phone ofcourse and it has some minor improvement from the Mate X. For example, this newer version now comes with a Hisilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset, improved cooling system and an upgraded hinge structure.
The display, overall design and cameras remains the same. It still comes with an 8inch display and a 40MP main camera. The Mate Xs folds like a notebook unlike other ones we have seen recently that folds vertically. Let’s take a look at the Huawei Mate Xs specs.

Like i said earlier, the smartphone looks like the main Mate X. There is no physical difference from the Mate X except for that upgraded hinge structure. The back is made from aluminium and it has same aluminium frame. It weighs 295grams with a dimension of 161.3 x 146.2 x 5.4 mm when unfolded and 161.3 x 78.3 x 11 mm when folded.
The device makes us of a hybrid SIM slot, which is either two nano SIMS without an SD card or a single nano SIM with SD card. One colour is available currently which is Interstellar Blue.
When you look at the display, you are greeted with a foldable OLED panel which measures 8.0 inch diagonally with a screen to body ratio of 86.9%. It has a resolution of 2200 by 2480pixels and a ppi of 414. When the phone is folded, you will be left with a 6.6inch AMOLED display which has a resolution of 1148 by 2480pixels.
Hardware & Software
Under the hood, the device is powered by a Hisilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset which uses an Octa core processor with a speed of 2.86GHz for the first two cores, 2.36GHz for another two cores and 1.95GHz for the last four cores. It runs on Android 10 with EMUI 10.0 on top.
For graphics or gaming, it has a Mali-G76 MP16 GPU. What is backing up the processor is an 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. There is a nano micro SD card slot where you can extend the storage up to 256GB.
Coming on to the camera, at the rear, there is a quad cameras which includes a 40MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8MP telephoto lens with 2.4 aperture, 16MP ultra wide with f/2.2 aperture and a TOF 3D depth sensor. It has a dual led flashlight for capturing images in low light conditions.
On the front, there is no camera, rather it makes use of the main camera. You can see that this is not a selfie device. The rear camera can shoot videos in 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 30fps. Some camera features includes panorama, HDR, Leica optics and so on.
What is powering this smartphone is a 4,500mAh battery which supports 40W fast charging. Huawei said that the charger can take this device from 0% to 85% under 30mintues. For security, there is a side mounted fingerprint scanner. Connectivity options includes, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and an Infrared port.

The Huawei Mate Xs price in Nigeria starts from N980,000 which translates to $2,713 USD and it’s Availablity in Nigeria is not yet confirmed but we guess it might be available soon.
